Quick Tip: Hide an application when activating another one

As you have more and more windows open, the screen can get quite busy and it will become difficult to focus on one thing.

Find out how to get things out of the way, as you move away from an application.

Hiding an application is great to get it out of the way, but still have it active in the background. This is done by pressing command-H or from the application menu, selecting Hide.

There is another way, that might be even faster. Especially, when you switch a lot between windows. Hold down the alt/option key as you click on a different application to activate it.

Holding down the alt/option key will automatically hide the application you move away from.

This also works for the icons in the Dock. Holding down alt/option while clicking on an icon in the Dock will hide the application.
