Fill out web forms in Safari automatically
In these days more and more stuff can be done online. A lot of services require us to enter personal data, such as address, phone number and email address into some kind of web form.
This can be quite a pain in the neck, especially as you have to enter the same data over and over again.
Well, no longer. Safari and Address Book work together to do that work for you. Let’s find out how.
Start off with this post on Address Book, if you haven’t used it before.
Setup
1) In Address Book, create a new card containing your personal data.
2) Once you’re done, from the Card menu select Make This My Card.
This will add a little “me” badge on the image, indicating that this is the card, containing your personal data.
3) Now head over to Safari.
4) As you go to a webpage on which you need to enter personal data, simply go to the Edit menu and pick AutoFill Form.
5) To try it out in “real life”, let’s go to ebay’s website and take the first step of registration. Clicking on register, brings up the registration form.
Now choose AutoFill Form and your personal data will be entered for you.
Close that browser window if you don’t wish to signup at ebay.
Fine tuning the AutoFill function
But there is more to Safari - it can remember stuff for you, such as information, user names and passwords, you once entered into a web form. By default, Safari does NOT remember user names and passwords.
To adjust these settings go to Safari’s preferences. Either via the Safari menu > Preferences or via shortcut command - , (comma). Go to the AufoFill tab.
Check the type of information you want Safari to remember. Click the Edit button to see a list of web pages of which information is already remember by Safari. In there you can also remove certain (or all) web pages and make Safari “forget” the information again.
For more information, click the question-mark button in the lower right corner.
We think this is a really useful function of Safari and Address Book. Moreover it shows how well Apple applications integrate with each other.
