SafariStand update - History Flow

Recently, we covered the software updates, released by Apple. SafariStand, one of our favorites add-ons for Safari also has been updated.

One of the major new features of SafariStand is History Flow which will give you a visual web history right in Safari.

So, if you updated Safari to version 3.1 through Software Update, as described here, please revisit this post on how to install (and also update SafariStand).

We already had a post on building a visual web history in Finder, utilizing SafariStand’s web thumbnails. Now it’s built in in SafariStand.

SafariStand provides a toolbar icon to access the visual web history in Safari. To adjust the toolbar, from the View menu, select Customize Toolbar…

Drag the History Flow icon to the toolbar.

Drag History Flow window

Click on Done to close the window, containing all the icons.

Now all you need to do is click the icon to get a visual web history. Use the search box in the upper right corner to narrow down the results.

History Flow

Double click any thumbnail image to open it.

To adjust the size of the thumbnails, use the small, white dot located in the middle just above the list of addresses.

Besides that History Flow, so far, offers little way of customizing the display of your web history (e.g. only the last 3 days). If you want that, stick with the method, described in this original post.

Use what’s good for you and enjoy.

Doesn’t work. It installed - I have a “Stand” menu - but no history flow. It’s not in the history menu nor is it in the customize toolbox. Tried the permissions terminal fix they mentioned as well - but I think that’s for if none of (SafariStand) works.

Mine works - except for the feature that was the reason I downloaded it. It’s the right download according to the site for the most recent version of Safari (3.1) and Tiger (10.4.11).

@mgabrys: Hi, unfortunately, History Flow is a feature that requires Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5). It probably uses Leopard’s functions (as Cover Flow in Finder) to do History Flow. So, I think you’re out of luck.

What you can do, however is to create a Smart Folder (as described in the original post on creating a visual web history and crank up the icon size).

I’m sorry, I was not clear about that in the post. Please note, that all post are based on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). While some tutorials might work as well in Tiger, most of them require Leopard to be installed on your Mac.
