2 buddies: Stacks and keyboard shortcuts

Stacks are a great feature for stuff you need to access quickly. They also help to reduce the clutter on your Desktop, putting downloaded files into a neat Download folder.

Today we will look at some keyboard magic to enhance your Stacks experience.

Reveal the file in Finder
Holding down the command key, while clicking on a file, reveals it in Finder rather than opening it.

Keep a Stack open
A Stack’s regular behavior is that it automatically collapses again, once you click a file. Hold down the alt/option key, when clicking on a file, to keep the Stack open

Combine this with the command key (as above) and you show the file in Finder, while the Stack stays open.

Selecting an item with the keyboard
Once a Stack is open, start typing the first letters of the file you wish to open. This will highlight it.

Alternatively you can press the tab key to go from one file to the next.

Open Stack with highlighted item

Finally, press enter/return to open the file.
A magic surprise
Try the following: Hold down the shift key and click on a Stack.

Enjoy!
