Automate an installation process - with Automator

Previously, we looked at how to install custom QuickLook plugins, so we can preview more kinds of file types using this awesome feature of Mac OS X Leopard.

Today we will learn how to automate this process of copying a file into a certain location. So we only need to click the file, select the action and it’s installed.

Make QuickLook preview more kinds of file types

In recent posts we talked about QuickLook, which allows you to instantly preview a file, without having to open it in an application.

However, there are file types, that can’t be previewed with the standard installation of Leopard.

Let’s find out how to add more plugins, so we can preview more file types (eg. compressed .zip files, flash video or even folders).

Create PDF files in Mac OS X

The PDF file format is the de facto standard for document exchange on the internet. So you probably came across it already (manuals, instructions, etc.). In Mac OS X, PDF creation is built-in into the print dialog. This means that, whenever you can print something, you can also create a PDF from it.

Let’s find out how you can save a document, a web page, an email or anything you can print, as a PDF allowing you to send it to somebody.

Fill out web forms in Safari automatically

In these days more and more stuff can be done online. A lot of services require us to enter personal data, such as address, phone number and email address into some kind of web form.

SafariStand update - History Flow

Recently, we covered the software updates, released by Apple. SafariStand, one of our favorites add-ons for Safari also has been updated.

One of the major new features of SafariStand is History Flow which will give you a visual web history right in Safari.
